Dr Jason Downing will be our June speakeron June 17th. Dr. Jason Downing is an Orchid Biologist from the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (Fairchild) & will inform us about Fairchild’s project to reintroduce Florida’s rare and endangered native orchids into South Florida’s environments. The Million Orchid Project is unique in its scale, its exclusive focus on public landscapes, and its involvement of the local community throughout the entire growing process. At its core, The Million Orchid Project is a massive science experiment that allows Fairchild Garden to make important discoveries about how native orchids grow and reproduce. The Million Orchid Project started in 2012, after Fairchild garden officials observed a similar propagation project in Singapore, said Jason Downing, a Fairchild conservation biologist. Jason will have a slide presentation on Fairchild’s project "MOP" to reintroduce Florida’s rare & endangered native orchids into South Florida’s environments!
